Paradise Park: Quiet, accessible city park near Joshua Tree National Park
While traveling to Joshua Tree National Park in California in March of 2023, I happened upon a city park in Yucca Valley that is worth noting for accessible travelers. It is near the west entrance to Joshua Tree NP, but away from the crowds. I don't know about your family, but we like to get an early start in the morning and explore while the crowds are minimal. This means by mid-day we are looking to have our lunch somewhere off the beaten path, accessible and quiet. Paradise Park in Yucca Valley seems to fit the bill.
The bathroom is nothing fancy, but it gets the job done. The park has accessible parking, accessible (and shady!) picnic spots, wheelchair-friendly sidewalks, drinking fountains and recreational areas, a nice, new children's playground, two full court basketball courts and a pickle ball court. I shot two videos, and I'll let them tell the rest of the story. Enjoy!
