Mecan River, June 6, 2010
We love canoeing, and have been canoeing as a family since forever. Back in 2010 when the boys were 8 and 6, we navigated a pretty little river called the Mecan. We put in above Germania, WI. The bank was a bit steep, with large rocks, but doable. It's a nice, clear trout stream with lots of little bridges, all numbered as if a lot of people canoe it, but we were alone. We paddled for a couple of hours until a bridge labeled with the number 3. The takeout was shallow and grassy and easy. Both boys were fast asleep by then.
Near the end I started recording a video in an attempt to capture the peaceful bliss of the gurgling river, the sleeping children, the swishing trees....instead what I captured is worthy of America's Funniest Home Videos:
I highly recommend this stretch of river, and I highly recommend NOT taking a video as you approach the bridges. :)
I think another short video is in order, to show a day in the life in the canoe of the Rule family. As it is, as it was, as it always will be. Now go paddle your own canoe!
